Parish Office

“Will you commit yourself to the mission and ministry of the people in this place to further the kingdom of God?”

I replied: “With God’s help, I will”

It is imperative to place this question alongside the Vision and Mission statements of the parish. These statements which were prepared by the leadership of the parish many years ago have your consent and I trust your commitment, since they appear in most of your communications. They explain what the parish understand by the mission and ministry as a congregation.

These statements form a Pastoral, Sacramental and Theological framework for the mission and ministry of the people of God. It’s a structure which assist in the way in which leadership needs to be given and in which the congregants are called to build community and be witnesses for Jesus, for the purpose of the kingdom of God.

We the Church of St George the Martyr, Kuils River, a Christian faith community, in the context of rapid change, are called to worship God, be a safe listening, caring and inclusive community, in which our faith is nurtured and, we are sent to listen and respond to the needs of the wider community with compassion and courage.

The Vision of the Province as set out by the Metropolitan, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (ACSA)

Scripture says: ‘Come to Christ … and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house … so you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.’

The five pillars of the ACT vision

  • • To proclaim the good news of the kingdom
  • • To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
  • • To respond to human need by loving service
  • • To seek to transform unjust structures of society
  • • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and to sustain the life of the earth

What is the meaning of 'ACT'?

1.       Anchored

2.       Committed

3.       Transformed
